      1. Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of American men and women.
      2. An estimated 80,700,000 American adults (one in three) 1 in 3 have one or more types of cardiovascular disease
      3. In 2005 861,826 deaths were related to cardiovascular disease. (Includes heart disease, heart attack, and stroke).
      4. 47.2% of all heart-related deaths are male, 52.8% are female.
      5. About every 26 seconds, an American will suffer a new or recurrent heart attack.
      6. Each year, 1.2 million persons are affected by heart attack.
      7. Of the 469,000 bypass surgeries performed each year, 50% are on people under the age of 65.
      8. In 2008, the overall cost for Cardiovascular Disease is estimated at 448.5 billion. 278.08 billion (62%) was for direct medical expenses, but more than one-third of the amount, $141.7 billion (38%), was for non-medical expenses, i.e. lost productivity due to morbidity and mortality.

    3. UTA Accident Expense Insurance Policy protects a client eight ways: Ambulance Benefits, Medical Expenses, Hospital Expenses, Intensive Care Benefits, Physical Therapy Benefits, Family Lodging & Transportation, Dismemberment Benefits, and Accidental Death Benefits.
      1. Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death for persons ages 1 to 44 and the 5th leading cause of death overall.
      2. About 35 percent of all hospital emergency department visits in the United States were injury related in 2003. About 40.2 million were treated for injuries I hospital emergency departments, and about 99.9 million visits to physician offices were due to injuries
      3. Unintentional disabling injuries totaled 23.2 million in 2004, and unintentional deaths totaled 111,000.
      4. 90% of deaths and about two-thirds of disabling injuries suffered by workers in 2004 occurred off the job.
      5. Production time lost due to off-the-job injuries totaled about 165 million days in 2004.
      6. The total estimated cost of fatal and non-fatal injuries in 2004 amounted to $574.8 billion, of which more than half ($298.4 billion) was due to wage and productivity losses, and $98.9 billion in medical expenses (Source: 2005-2006 edition Injury Facts, National Safety Council).
